On May 13, the 2015 e-surfing broadband and application industry chain conference with the topic “New Broadband, New TV” was held in Saint Tropez Hotel, Changsha.
Organized by Hunan Telecom, this event attracted many players in the industry chain including manufacturers of broadband terminal, high-end smart phone, UHD and OLED television as well as IPTV content providers and value-added service providers.
Services and products were presented in exhibition zones respectively on three floors, including IPTV+, 4K UHD broadband TV, OLED television, OLT, 4G smart phone, IPTV content and value-added service and apps.
The topic of this event was “New Broadband, New TV”. Specifically, the New Broadband refers to China Telecom’s national service and brand improvement strategy for 2015 — 100M broadband and optical network to home. The New TV referred to Hunan Telecom’s new IPTV+ service that is quicker and richer and supports HD, multi-terminal viewing, and multi-screen interaction for home users to meet users’ new requirement for IPTV and OTT TV and high-quality video in the Internet era.
The key note of the event was the IPTV 4K service launch and demonstration jointly conducted by Hunan Telecom and ZTE. Hunan Telecom’s 4K UHD broadband TV service is built up by three strategic partners, namely Hunan Telecom, Mango TV, and ZTE. At the ZTE exhibition stand on the third floor, attendees got a chance to watch and experience abundant smart home services, solutions, and products including 4K UHD TV, multi-screen interaction, IPTV motion sensing games, IPTV voice control, smart appliance, OLT, and smart phone. All these were demonstrated based on the actual service scenario of current Hunan Telecom users.
According to Hunan Telecom, the company’s total number of IPTV users already reached 1.6 million. In 2015, Hunan Telecom had planned to introduce new bundled plans featuring optical cable connection , 4K UHD service and smart IPTV terminal. The operator aimed to develop 600,000 to 800,000 more IPTV+ users by the end of 2015. Hunan Telecom IPTV service supported live broadcast of more than 150 channels including CCTV, satellite channels, and provincial and city channels, as well as SD and 1080P HD on-demand programs, which totally last for 200,000 hours. It also provided value-added services such as IPTV games.
Hunan Telecom’s IPTV network was exclusively constructed and supported by ZTE. As a leading and the largest IPTV/OTT system solution, equipment, and service provider in China and even the world, ZTE provides the full series of IPTV service solutions covering the IPTV headend, service operation platform, content broadcast control platform, streaming media middleware, CDN, service quality surveillance, EPG tamper resistance, and STB.
With its strong IPTV R&D, engineering, and after-service capabilities, ZTE successfully delivered several projects with technological innovations such as IPTV/OTT convergence reconstruction and 4K UHD commercial use for the largest IPTV operators in China including Jiangsu Telecom and Sichuan Telecom.
ZTE was determined to help Hunan Telecom quickly and smoothly modernize its IPTV network to support evolving IPTV services, thereby allowing Hunan Telecom to deliver the brand-new IPTV+ service and 4K UHD broadband TV service for its users based on the current network platform.
On May 17, 2015, Hunan Telecom IPTV+ and 4K UHD TV service was put into commercial use. This enabled the operator’s existing and new customers in Hunan to enjoy an array of diverse services, including 100M optical network broadband connectivity, 4K UHD broadband TV service, IPTV+ service, 100G domestic 4G data traffic and 2,000-minute of domestic voice call, at a price of only CNY169.
