WBO To Strip Charlo From Title And Promote Tszyu Without A Fight

Chairman of the management committee of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Luis Batista Salas said that the association will give the title to Australian Tim Tszyu because of the organization of the fight between the champion Jermell Charlo and Saul Alvarez.

Recall, Alvarez and Charlo will hold a bout on September 30 in the United States.

WBO statement
The WBO will sanction Canelo/Charlo scheduled for September 30, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Charlo will be allowed to enter the ring as WBO Champion and be announced as such (WBO Jr. Middleweight Champion). After Charlo’s WBO Champion status and recognition is terminated, Tim Tszyu will be automatically elevated to Full Champion status.

Charlo, 33, last boxed in May 2022 against Brian Castagna. That fight, which was stopped in the tenth round, ended in favor of Jermell by knockout. He has 35 wins (19 by knockout), one loss and one draw on his record.

Tszyu, 28, last fought against Carlos Ocampo in June of this year. In this confrontation Tim won by knockout in the first round. He has 23 wins (17 by knockout) and no losses.
