First time in 16 years, Messi and Ronaldo are not in top 3 of voting for Ballon d'Or

The results of the voting for the Ballon d'Or have become known.

After counting the votes, 6 players have equal scores and shared 25th place. They are Christopher Nkunku (Leipzig), Darwin Núñez (Benfica/Liverpool), João Cancelo (Manchester City), Antonio Rüdiger (Chelsea/Real Madrid), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern) and Mike Menin (AC Milan).

It also became known that Manchester United's Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo was 20th in the voting. It should be noted that the Argentine forward of PSG Lionel Messi was not even in the top thirty candidates.

The last time neither Messi nor Ronaldo were in the top 3 was in 2006. That time the award was won by Italian Fabio Cannavaro, with his compatriot Gianluigi Buffon coming in second and Frenchman Thierry Henry rounding out the top three.

The Ballon d'Or ceremony will begin at 18:30 GMT. The favorite for the prize is a French striker of Real Karim Benzema.
