Eto'o played for the club from August 2011 to August 2013. The striker played 73 games for the Makhachkala club in the Russian Championship and Cup, as well as in the Europa League, where he scored 36 goals and gave 16 assists.
It was reported in late September 2023 that Eto'o was close to resigning as head of the Cameroon Football Federation, a position he has held since December 2021, due to allegations of corruption and match-fixing.
