According to Sport.es, Barcelona has decided to revoke former defender Dani Alves' status as a club legend after he was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape.
The source notes that the club approached this issue with caution, abiding by the principle of innocence until proven guilty. Alves was only removed from the list of legends after the sentence came into force.
In January, the Brazilian was charged with raping a 23-year-old woman at the Sutton nightclub in Barcelona. On January 20, the footballer was remanded in custody and denied bail several times. As a result, Dani Alves was sentenced to four and a half years in prison and ordered to pay 150,000 euros in moral compensation.
Dani Alves played for Barcelona from 2008. Over eight years, he played in 394 matches. The Brazilian won the Spanish championship six times, the cup four times, and the country's Super Cup three times. Additionally, he won the Champions League three times. After leaving Barcelona, the player went on to play for Juventus, PSG, Sao Paulo, and Mexican club UNAM Pumas. He returned to Barcelona in 2021, where he spent one year.
