The International Football Federation (FIFA) has announced the names of three contenders who will compete for the award for the best footballer in the world in 2023.

The nominees are strikers Lionel Messi (Inter Miami, MLS, Argentina national team), Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint-Germain, Ligue 1, France national team) and Erling Haaland (Manchester City, EPL, Norway national team).

Note that the current winner of the award is 36-year-old Messi, who became the world champion in 2022 at the World Cup held in Qatar with the Argentina national team.

The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony will be held in London on January 15.

December 9, the head of MLS Don Garber said in an interview with ESPN that he hopes Messi will remain in the championship and after the end of his contract with Inter Miami in July 2025.
