RFEF Faces Financial Blow If Barcelona Or Real Madrid Miss Top Spots

Mundo Deportivo has reported that the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) may face a loss of five million euros if neither Barcelona nor Real Madrid are among the top two teams at the end of the 2023/2024 La Liga season.

According to the source, the RFEF has an existing contract with Saudi Arabia, where the Spanish Super Cup is held in January. As per the tournament conditions, if either Blaugrana or los Blancos do not play in the final match, the host has the right to pay five million euros less for the absence of each team. It is worth noting that the total amount the federation receives from Saudi Arabia for hosting the Spanish Super Cup on its soil amounts to 40 million euros.

In the 2023/2024 season, neither Barça nor Real will be able to qualify for the Super Cup through the Copa del Rey, as both teams have already been eliminated from the tournament. The remaining two spots in the Super Cup will go to the Spanish champion and the La Liga runner-up. After 25 rounds, Real Madrid leads the championship with 62 points, five points ahead of second-placed Barcelona.
