UN Comments On Sexism In Sports After RFEF Head Rubiales Kissed Football Player

Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary General António Guterres commented on the sexist scandal involving the head of the Spanish football federation Luis Rubiales.

Stéphane Dujarric
Sexism is still a critical issue in sports and we hope that the Spanish authorities and the Spanish government deal with this in a manner that respects the rights of all female athletes. There is no evidence that the kiss was consensual.

Recall, the incident occurred during the awards ceremony for the winners of the women's World Cup. Luis Rubiales kissed football player of the Spanish national team Jennifer Hermoso, later the athlete said that it was done without her consent and condemned the actions of Rubiales. FIFA is considering suspending the official from any football activity for 15 years after the scandal.
