Vera: Losing To Aldo Was Best Mistake Of My Life

Ecuadorian fighter and UFC bantamweight title contender Marlon Vera has spoken about his emotions after losing to Jose Aldo in a fight four years ago.

Vera lost to Aldo via unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 183 in 2020.

Yahoo Sports quotes Aldo as saying:

Losing like that really hurt. I went to a dark place. I was hard on myself. It was depressing … That was 1,001 percent on me. I made the biggest mistake of my life, but it was also the best mistake of my life because it taught me so much in the long run. Why not (have that lesson) against a legend like Jose Aldo?

Vera is set to face Sean O'Malley in the main event of UFC 299 on March 10.

Vera last fought at UFC 292 against Pedro Munhoz, winning via unanimous decision. He has a professional MMA record of 23 wins, eight losses, and one draw.

Aldo last fought against Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278 in August 2022, losing via unanimous decision. He announced his retirement from MMA after the fight. He has a professional MMA record of 31 wins and eight losses.
