Alcaraz Prioritizes Paris Olympics Gold Over Wimbledon Title Defense

The second-ranked player in the world 21-year-old Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has admitted that this year, Paris Olympic gold holds more significance for him than defending his Wimbledon title.

 Alcaraz told AS:

That’s a difficult question to answer, but the Olympic Games are only held once every four years and are a special event. You are not only playing for yourself, but also for your country; you represent all Spaniards. I think I would choose Olympic gold this year.

Wimbledon will take place from July 1st to 14th, while the Olympic tennis tournament will run from July 27th to August 4th. After the grass tournament in Britain, players will transition to clay at the Olympics.

It is worth noting that Alcaraz claimed victory at Wimbledon last year. Additionally, he won the French Open this year, defeating Germany's Alexander Zverev in the final.

Argentinian national team forward and Inter Miami star Lionel Messi gifted his jersey to Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz before the French Open final. Messi is an eight-time Ballon d'Or winner.
