Former world number one, Spanish representative Garbine Muguruza announced her retirement during a press conference in Madrid.

Tennis has given me a lot in this first part of my life. I am tremendously grateful to all the people who have helped and accompanied me throughout this chapter. Now I am ready to start a new chapter in my life, which will surely be linked in some way to tennis and sports.
It should be noted that in January 2023, Muguruza announced her decision to take a break. The 30-year-old Muguruza is a two-time Grand Slam tournament winner (French Open 2016 and Wimbledon 2017) and the WTA Finals champion in 2021. Throughout her career, Garbine has won 15 WTA titles, including ten in singles.
