World number one Novak Djokovic of Serbia withdraws from Madrid Masters

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Masters series tournament in Madrid, which will be held from April 26 to May 7.

The 22-time ATP number one ranked Grand Slam winner had earlier suffered a shocking loss in his quarter-final match at the ATP250 tournament in Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The 35-year-old lost to compatriot Dušan Lajović (70th-ranked in the world) in two sets 4-6, 6-7 (6-8).

At the beginning of the outdoor season Djokovic complained about an elbow injury. During a tournament in Bosnia he said "my elbow is not in its perfect condition". It should be noted that Djokovic has lost two of his four matches on the mainland this season.
