On January 2nd, the Wellington Firebirds faced off against Northern Districts in their final match of the competition. Despite a valiant effort by Northern Districts, they fell short by 23 runs, posting a total of 154 runs with the loss of eight wickets in their chase. Tom Blundell, a key player for Wellington, was named the Player of the Match for his impressive performance, scoring 71 runs from 39 balls. He received support from various other batsmen in the top and middle order, including Tim Robinson (20 runs), Muhammad Abbas (23 runs), Jesse Tashkoff (22 runs), and Callum McLachlan (22 runs), which helped to strengthen Wellington's position while batting first. On the other hand, Northern Districts faced difficulties early in their response, losing their first three wickets with minimal runs on the board. The match between Otago Volts and Canterbury marked the final game for the Volts in the competition. Otago Volts decided to bat first and managed to score 171 runs, losing five wickets in the process. However, Canterbury Kings successfully chased down this total in just 18.5 overs, securing a close victory by four wickets.

Hamish Rutherford laid a strong foundation for the Otago innings as he opened and scored 52 runs off 39 balls, hitting six fours and one six. In the middle order, Glenn Phillips contributed 38 runs off 30 balls with two sixes and two fours. The lower middle order duo of Max Chu and Dale Phillips played a crucial role in boosting the Otago innings, with Chu scoring 34 runs and Phillips adding 32 runs, both hitting some big shots to help their team reach a respectable total.

On the bowling front, Andrew Hazeldine and Travis Muller stood out for the Otago team, each picking up two wickets. Jake Gibson also took a wicket, limiting the Canterbury Kings' scoring rate.

The Seddon Park in Hamilton has hosted a total of 36 T20 matches. Interestingly, teams batting first have had more success at this ground, winning 21 games compared to the 15 won by teams batting second.

Ranked as the fourth largest cricket ground in New Zealand, Seddon Park was specifically designed for cricket and provides a favourable batting surface. While the wicket may assist bowlers later on, batting first is the recommended strategy. Although there may be some showers during the game, the weather is expected to clear up by the evening, ensuring a good cricket match. The temperatures throughout the game will range from 16 to 20 degrees, with cloud cover aiding fast bowlers.

Both teams, Northern Districts and Otago Volts find themselves towards the bottom of the points table. However, Northern Districts have played three games compared to Otago's five. In addition, Northern Districts possess a better net run rate, despite their lower ranking. Therefore, we anticipate Northern Districts to emerge victorious in this contest.
