At the weekend, Emelec had a very difficult duel as part of the national championship, where they managed to defeat a great team Barcelona SC as a guest in the city clash of Guayaquil, also known as the Clasico Astiljero or Shipyard Derby. With a dominant performance and a score of 3:1, Emelec regained some of the self-confidence they had lost after eight consecutive games without a win. In the bad result streak, which started on April 23, there were as many as six draws and two defeats, including the matches of the Copa Sudamericana and the championship of Ecuador. With five points, a win, two draws and a loss, Emelec are in third place in Group B, where their tonight's opponent, Guarani are the leader with two more points. They have the same points as Huracan, which are currently in second place due to the advantage in goal difference. Emelec however, will play the last two games at home, which gives them a certain advantage. In the last group match at this same stadium, they will meet the Uruguayan Danubio.
On the other hand, Guarani also sees Copa Sudamericana as a priority. After all, they have nothing else to do in the final part of the Paraguayan Apertura. On Friday, in the match for the twenty-first and penultimate round of the competition, even at home, they were defeated by Olympia 2:1. This loss left Herman Rodrigo Lopes' team in fifth place in the domestic championship with 32 points won from eight wins, eight draws, and five losses and is as much as 18 points behind Libertad, the early champions of the Apertura tournament. However, their performances in the Copa Sudamericana are good so far. It was a victory that kept them in first place in the Group B standings, with seven points won so far from two wins, a draw, and a loss. However, the difference compared to Emelec, the first club outside of the places that allow the continuation and passage to the next round of the competition, is only two points, so Guarani’s pretension to keep the place that leads to the continuation of the competition is still strong.

Traditionally very strong in front of his fans, Emelec enters this duel with increased confidence from the victory in the recently played city Classic and have all the conditions to do so in this match, but the opposite team is the leader of the group, who also performs much better in this competition than in their national championship and will do everything to avoid defeat in tonight's clash. The managers don’t have any major troubles with injured or absent players and we can expect attractive, competitive match with attacking football from both teams.
