Liverpool continued their winning streak with a 3-1 victory over West Ham United, making it six consecutive wins across all competitions. Unlike previous matches, Liverpool did not have to come from behind to secure the win. Although West Ham briefly threatened with a goal from Jarrod Bowen, Mohamed Salah had already put Liverpool ahead with a penalty before Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota added to the scoreline in the second half.
With both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur dropping points, Liverpool capitalized on the opportunity to move up to second place in the Premier League, just two points behind Manchester City. The recent performances from Liverpool offer hope for an exciting title race between the two Northern rivals.
By defeating David Moyes's team, Liverpool extended their winning streak to 18 games without a loss since an embarrassing defeat against Manchester City in April. The team has scored at least two goals in each of their last six matches.
Although Liverpool has a strong history in the EFL Cup, winning it nine times, their defense of the 2022 title ended prematurely in the fourth round against Manchester City nine months ago.
Liverpool Predicted Lineup
Kelleher; Bajcetic, Konate, Quansah, Tsimikas; Elliott, Endo, Gravenberch; Doak, Gakpo, Jota
Leicester City form
Leicester City suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Liverpool in their second-to-last Premier League game of the 2022-23 season, which contributed to their eventual relegation and made their memorable 2015-16 title victory seem like a distant memory. However, under the guidance of Enzo Maresca, Leicester have already established their position as the leading contenders for promotion in the 2023-24 Championship season. They have secured an impressive 21 points out of 24 available, cementing their spot at the top of the league standings. Although Leicester experienced their first loss of the season against Hull City just before the international break, they bounced back after the two-week hiatus with three consecutive victories over Southampton, Norwich City, and most recently Bristol City. Jamie Vardy's penalty was the deciding factor in their 1-0 win against Bristol City, and the 36-year-old striker showcased his energy and enthusiasm by celebrating in front of the opposing team's fans. Alongside newly-promoted Ipswich Town, Leicester is one of two teams with seven wins from their first eight matches. Despite their current success, their focus temporarily shifts to the EFL Cup where they hope to avoid another early exit in the third round, having been eliminated in a penalty shootout by Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the 2021-22 season.
Leicester City Predicted Lineup
Stolarczyk; Pereira, Faes, Vestergaard, Justin; Casadei, Ndidi, Winks; Akgun, Iheanacho, Mavididi
Liverpool vs Leicester City Expert Tips
If Leicester maintains their current performance, they will likely face Liverpool in Premier League matches during the 2024-25 season. However, for now, it is likely that Klopp's team will easily defeat the leaders of the Championship, giving them a harsh reality check. Liverpool has been consistently scoring multiple goals in recent weeks, so it shouldn't be difficult for them to progress to the fourth round without encountering many obstacles.
