VFL Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund Prediction: Borussia Dortmund to continue winning

Should they continue this streak to seven games, it will be their worst start to a calendar year since 1998.

Although Wolfsburg is still seven points above the drop zone and seems to be losing ground on Eintracht Frankfurt, its chances of qualifying for Europe seem to be dwindling despite that slip. Though this is the lowest point total the team has had since 2016–17, when they had a relegation playoff to avoid the drop, the team will still be closely watched.

Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund has put a lacklustre first half of the season behind them with four victories from five Bundesliga games, taking them three points clear of the Champions League spots. Except for a setback against a challenging Heidenheim team, BVB has scored three goals or more in each of their four wins thus far in 2024, demonstrating that their offensive has been the key to their success.

Last Saturday, Dortmund easily defeated their fellow European challengers Freiburg 3-0 at Signal Iduna Park, bouncing back from the 0-0 stalemate away from home. Leipzig was able to close the three-point deficit with Die Roten Bullen after their draw with Augsburg; however, Dortmund is finding it difficult to close the gap with Stuttgart, who are now in third place.

Dortmund has a chance to tie a 30-year club record in this game as well, considering it may be the first time they have kept four straight clean sheets away from home in the Bundesliga since 1994. That would be ideal training before traveling to the Netherlands midweek to play PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
