Finland also had a poor start at the 2024 World Competition, losing 5:2 and 4:3 to Canada and Germany full-time. It looked as if the Suomi side would have to fight for survival in the world's elite, but they then defeated the Latvians 4:0, beat the Swedes 5:4 on penalties to finish third in their group, and beat the Slovaks 4:3 in the quarter-finals.
