Belal Muhammad vs. Sean Brady: A Decision Win

The featured prelim of UFC 280 is a top-ten fight between two of Welterweight’s most consistent fighters and top contenders. American fighters Belal Muhammad and Sean Brady ranked 5th and 8th respectively in the 170 -pound class tilt in a bout that may set up a championship eliminator for the winner. Belal Muhammad

The 34-year-old American who turned professional in 2012 joined the UFC in 2016 from Titan where he was the Welterweight champion. “Remember the Name” made a losing debut in the elite promotion against Alan Jouban but the bout won the Fight of the Night award. After a shaky start to his UFC career, he has taken off in the promotion and currently has twelve wins and three losses, including a Performance of the Night bonus award. He is unbeaten in eight fights and barring the NC with Leon Edwards has been firmly in the win column in the last few years. Currently number five in the rankings, Muhammad has the fourth highest decision wins per win percentage at ten decision wins out of twelve victories. He is also tied for the sixth most unanimous decision wins in UFC history with nine victories by way of the Judges’ cards.

Sean Brady

The American fighter has just five fights in the UFC but he has shot up the rankings in a very short time. He is unbeaten in his professional career. In his last fight against Michael Chiesa, he battled through a broken nose to win the unanimous decision in November 2021. Brady is a very good grappler who takes his opponents to the canvas on 60% of his takedown tries while thwarting over 80% of the takedowns against him. Brady has a one-armed guillotine choke which he deploys effectively. He also packs a punch and has been known to deploy it in previous fights to get some KOs. Brady won the Welterweight championship in the Cage Fury FC before signing for the UFC.

If Belal wins then he will arguably get a title fight. This is a big matchup between the two grapplers. They are similar in their fighting styles. The slight difference is that Muhammad uses a high volume of grappling and striking while Brady is a strong athletic fellow. While Belal’s groundwork is based on overwhelming his foe, Brady bases his on dominance. Once down he tries to pin his opponent there and hold him. Sean Brady is powerful and has a fighting brain. It is very difficult to outthink or outsmart him in the cage. To stop Sean Brady, a fighter needs to do something special or dominant to stop him. Brady also has a power advantage. Brady has been reputed to have massive endurance and performance indicators and conditioning. Muhammad is a very good grappler with very good take-down defense and even better on his feet than Brady due to his technique. But in a 3- rounder, Belal will be defending Brady’s take-downs too.
