45th in the world On his Paris Masters debut, Jack Draper dominated the first round on Tuesday, advancing to the round of 32.
The 20-year-old Briton won 97% (30 of 31) of his games on his first serve, defeating French wild card Arthur Rinderknech 6-3, 6-4.
The lefty did not face a break point in the first set of the one-hour and 31-minute match. In the last game of the match, he faced his first two break points, but he saved both of them before converting the match point and moving on to the next round.
Draper's season record now stands at 17-11 on the tour and 44-16 overall. He has won four Challenger championships this year, was a semifinals in Eastbourne and a quarterfinalist in Montreal, and has risen dramatically in the rankings after beginning the season at World no. 265. Frances Tiafoe
Frances Tiafoe got off to a fast start at the Paris Masters, dispatching Italian qualifier Lorenzo Sonego in straight sets.
Tiafoe did not face a single break point in the match, and he broke Sonego once in each set to win 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 15 minutes.
The world no. 21, who reached the U.S. Open semifinals this year, earned 84% of his initial deliveries, struck 22 winners, and won 18 of 23 net points.
Tiafoe, who had just reached the finals in Tokyo, was coming off a first-round loss in Vienna. But he has been in such fantastic form recently that he rapidly overcame the first-round setback in Paris to advance to the round of 32 for the second time in his fourth attempt.
Tiafoe, who won his sole championship in Delray Beach in 2018, finished second in this year's finals in Estoril and Tokyo.
After a strong start, he will look to move to the tournament's final 16 for the first time.
