Seventeen-year-old footballer Jorge Saraiva, who played for the Portuguese club Despertar, has drowned in the ocean, according to a statement from the football team.
According to the Record publication, the incident took place at Carcavelos Beach near Lisbon. Saraiva was enjoying a day at the beach with three friends when a strong wave swept them out to sea. Rescue teams managed to save Saraiva's friends, but unfortunately, the young footballer did not survive; his body was later recovered.
In early July, Portugal mourned the loss of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically died in a car accident. They were laid to rest in Portugal on July 5.
