The car of the late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota caught fire after crashing into a safety barrier. This information comes from El Pais, citing the Civil Guard of Zamora.
According to the source, the vehicle carrying Jota and his brother, André Silva, was attempting to overtake a truck at a high speed. During the maneuver, the car lost control, struck the barrier, which damaged the fuel tank, ultimately causing the fire.
Previously, it was reported that the accident was caused by a damaged tire – specifically, a tire blowout during the overtaking attempt led to a loss of control, resulting in the car veering off the road and igniting.
Jota had been with Liverpool since 2020, playing a total of 182 matches, scoring 65 goals and providing 26 assists.
Earlier, The Independent reported that Liverpool postponed the start of their preseason training due to the tragic passing of team forward Diogo Jota.
