Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce visit Robin Van Persie's Feyenoord in the pick of Wednesday's Champions League qualifying games. The Turkish giants, backed by a manager with one of the biggest egos in Europe, will expect to be eligible for the main draw of the Champions League and make a big push for silverware this season. Feyenoord made it to the round of 16 last season, buoyed by a massive improvement in fortunes when Robin van Persie returned to manage his childhood club. The Dutch team is the slight favorite to win this game and take a lead to Istanbul next week. The winner of the tie meets either Club Brugge or RB Salzburg.

Feyenoord

Robin van Persie's first season as Feyenoord coach was a success. The team finished third in the league and reached the last 16 of the Champions League. Having joined the team mid-season last year, van Persie now has a preseason behind him as he attempts to position Feyenoord amongst Europe's elite again. The Dutch side were 4-0 up against Wolfsburg last weekend in their final warm-up game before a medical emergency halted proceedings with minutes to the end of the game. Club captain Quinten Timber is set to return from injury, while new additions have arrived to replace outgone players. Last year Feyenoord played some sensational football at times, and it remains to be seen if this team will take the rebuild further. As the Eredivisie begins this weekend, the Turkish challenge will provide Van Persie with an ideal test run.

Fenerbahce

Mourinho and his Fenerbahce team were successful over the summer with their preseason games. Three wins in a row in Portugal and victories over Al-Ittihad and Lazio, were complemented by one loss against Benfica. Mourinho has also been doing some house-cleaning, getting rid of some of the stalwarts and bringing in fresh faces. "The Special One" begins his second season in the Turkish capital, eager to close the gap with bitter rivals Galatasaray and remedy an early Champions League exit last year. Jhon Duran, Nelson Semedo, and Archie Brown have all joined, while a host of players led by Cengiz Under and Rodrigo Becao are out.

Fenerbahce Possible Starting lineup:

Egribayat; Muldur, Soyuncu, Oosterwolde, Semedo, Fred, Amrabat, Brown, Kahveci, Szymanski, Duran
