Porto President Andre Villas-Boas announced that the club was attempting to bring back forward Diogo Jota, who recently died in a car accident while playing for Liverpool.
Unfortunately, we were working with agent Jorge Mendes on Diogo Jota's return to FC Porto, and it won't be possible. It would be from 2026/27, and we had discussed the possibility. I made a point of conveying that message to Diogo, through Jorge Mendes, at his wedding, and it was a dream for all the Porto fans that it had happened.
News of the death of 28-year-old Diogo Jota and his 25-year-old brother Andre Silva broke on July 3rd.
Jota had been with Liverpool since 2020, playing 182 matches and winning three trophies. Prior to that, he played for Wolverhampton, Porto, Atletico Madrid, and Paços de Ferreira.
Last season, Jota became an English Premier League champion with Liverpool and in June won the UEFA Nations League for the second time with the Portugal national team.
It was previously reported that Liverpool postponed the start of their pre-season training due to the untimely death of Diogo Jota.
