Spanish Clubs Fail to Win European Trophies for the First Time Since 2019

After Real Betis's defeat in the UEFA Conference League final, Spanish clubs have lost their chance to claim a European trophy for the first time since the 2018/2019 season.

The match in Wrocław against Chelsea ended 4-1 in favor of the English side. After Ez Abde scored, Chelsea responded with goals from Enzo Fernandez, Nicolas Jackson, Jadon Sancho, and Moises Caicedo after the 65th minute.

Since 2019, Spanish clubs had dominated European competitions, winning for five consecutive seasons. Sevilla and Villarreal claimed the Europa League in 2020 and 2021, respectively, while Real Madrid won the Champions League in 2022 and 2024, and Sevilla secured another trophy in the second-tier competition in 2023.
