On Friday, the Turkish club announced that Fenerbahçe had parted ways with Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho just two days after their elimination from the Champions League playoffs by Benfica.

The statement read:
"Our Professional Football First Team's technical director, Jose Mourinho, who has been carrying out his duties starting from the 2024-2025 season, has parted ways with us. "We thank him for his efforts for our team until today and wish him success in his future career."

The Turkish club were beaten 1-0 by Benfica over two legs in the Champions League play-offs and will, therefore, play in the Europa League this season. Mourinho leaves Fenerbahçe just two matches into the new season, having been appointed in 2024.

In his 62 games in the Fenerbahçe dugout, the Special One recorded an incredible 37 victories and just 11 losses across all competitions. During his time in Istanbul, Mourinho failed to win any silverware, having been knocked out of the Turkish Cup in the quarter-finals, losing in the Europa League round of 16, and also finishing second in the Turkish Super Lig, 11 points behind champions Galatasaray.

What's next for Jose Mourinho?

Jose Mourinho's future is unclear after his recent dismissal by Fenerbahçe, but he might be considering a return to English football or a club not involved in European competitions following his recent interviews.

Mourinho told reporters
“The best thing I have to do is when I leave Fener is that I go to a club that doesn’t play in UEFA competition. So a club at the bottom in England who needs a coach in two years, I’m ready to go.”

However, Bookmakers have identified Nottingham Forest as the frontrunner for Jose Mourinho's next permanent managerial position. This comes in light of Nuno Espirito Santo’s job security being in jeopardy after he recently mentioned that his “relationship has changed” with owner Evangelos Marinakis. Below are the odds for Jose Mourinho’s next permanent job as listed on Bet365.
