Kai Havertz scored a late goal to secure Arsenal's victory over Brentford with a 2-1 scoreline. Despite a disastrous first-half error by goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, the Gunners managed to win the match and secure their eighth consecutive win in the Premier League, thus taking the top spot in the league table.

The hard-fought victory puts Arsenal in provisional first place with 64 points, one point ahead of Liverpool and two points ahead of Manchester City. The latter two clubs will be playing each other at Anfield on Sunday.

Ramsdale made a disastrous error, which resulted in Yoane Wissa scoring a goal, thus equalizing the score late in the first half. This mistake seemed like it might cost Arsenal the game, but Kai Havertz managed to score a header late on, just like he did in the reverse fixture back in November.

Brentford fought hard to avoid defeat but ultimately succumbed, leaving them just five points above the relegation zone with a winless streak of five games.

Arteta was delighted at full-time, and deservedly so. Last season, his team lost ground in the title race in these kinds of games, so these wins will be tremendously meaningful to him.

Arteta
Arteta told Sky Sports after the match that
It was special against a really tough opponent, he continued. At 1-0, we had the game under control, but conceding the equalizer made life more difficult. Then you have the beautiful challenge in the second half against a team that wants to take the game to a different state. But we insisted, we were so determined and really aggressive. We knocked on the door, we knocked on the door and we got rewarded.
The Spaniard when asked about the Ramsdale mistake, he told Sky Sports that
That's the courage that Aaron has, that's his personality," the Spaniard told Sky Sports. Mistakes are part of football, it is how you react to that and he did that. I'm so happy for him and I'm so happy that we won the game

Thomas Frank expressed his displeasure at Havertz not receiving a second yellow card after his dive in the penalty area in the 66th minute. Frank felt that Havertz should have been sent off before he scored the winning goal.

Thomas Frank
Thomas Frank told Sky Sports that
I don't think Havertz should be on the pitch (to score the winner). For me, it was a clear dive. If you see it back, it's clear. Maybe it's difficult for the ref, but the linesman should have seen it.

The Brentford manager believes that his team has shown a defensive masterclass when they play against Arsenal.

Frank said
I'm so proud of the team and players. We are coming to Arsenal, an in-form team, they have been praised for scoring 100 goals in the last however many games, and we limited them to very minimal chances. Almost a defensive masterclass, so much effort, so much mentality and we were, arguably, closer to scoring with Nathan Collins' header before they made it 2-1. In that sense, it's hard to take, but the performance was spot on.

Arsenal's next match will be in the Champions League against FC Porto in the round of 16 second leg, with the Portuguese side leading 1-0. Mikel Arteta's team will aim to turn the tie around at the Emirates Stadium and secure their place in the quarterfinals of the competition. However, we predict Arsenal will win the match.
