Andrews has made the decision amid uncertainty surrounding Wissa's future at the club, after Newcastle United's £25 million offer, plus £5 million in add-ons for the 28-year-old, was rejected.
“As a head coach, I want Yoane to be in the building and be a part of the first team and the squad. I see that. But I am very understanding of his situation.
Wissa departed Brentford's training camp in Portugal after receiving an offer from Newcastle, reportedly threatening to refuse to play for the Bees if his move to St. James' Park was blocked. Andrews emphasized the importance of concentrating on players prepared for the match.
“I have a very good relationship with him, and that will persist. But we have to focus on the players who are ready. But we have to focus on the players who are ready, and I don’t think Yoane’s in that space. He won’t be involved.”
Wissa joined Brentford from Lorient in August 2021 and was instrumental in their success last season, netting 19 Premier League goals and contributing significantly to the Bees’ 10th-place finish in the top flight. Meanwhile, Bryan Mbeumo has exited the club in a £71 million transfer to Manchester United, captain Christian Norgaard has made a move to Arsenal and keeper Mark Flekken to Bayer Leverkusen.
