NTT DoCoMo has struck a deal with five of the biggest global telecom vendors for a technical framework for value-added IMS services.

The specifications, developed in partnership with Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Fujitsu, NEC and Nokia Siemens Networks, support the development of data processing functions.

Each of the companies will be able to develop new IMS services using the data processing functions, which can then be easily added to IMS-enabled networks, DoCoMo said. Possible examples include image conversion or automatic text translation.

The companies successfully tested a system based on the framework in August. The parties will push to have the specifications adopted by the GSMA's Rich Communications Suite (RCS) project.
