Orcon is likely to secure the exclusive deal to provide a mobile network supporting Apple's iPhone when it makes its New Zealand debut, technology web site geekzone.co.nz speculates. Orcon and Apple declined to comment.

Digital security firm Gemalto signs a partnership deal with Taiwan's Far EasTone to start Asia's first mobile contactless SIM-based near field communications trial. The trial will start in November and rolled out in phases.

Kyocera reports that that the number of iBurst subscribers worldwide now exceeds 140,000, with continued growth anticipated. Currently deployed in 10 nations, iBurst is an 'always-on,' IP-centric, mobile, high-speed wireless access system manufactured by Kyocera.
