Philippine carrier PLDT reports that messages on its network hit a daily average of 700 million to 750 million last year, aaccording to a Reuters report. The Philippines is one of the prolific text messaging centres of the world with even the central bank governor sending monetary policy statements via mobile phone, the report said.

Cordia, a communications service provider of traditional CLEC and VoIP solutions, signs a global reseller and network peering pact with BTI America, a subsidiary of Manila, Philippines-based Bayan Telecommunications. The pact provides for network interconnection between Cordia and Bayan.

UTStarcom announces that its IPVS system, an IP video surveillance solution based upon the company's RollingStream IPTV technology, has been selected by China Netcom to serve as the primary design and deployment platform for the Safe-City project in Benxi, Liaoning Province, China.
