FASTTAKES: Softbank, HSL, Tsinghua, Siemens

Softbank Telecom upgrades its main US point of presence located at Switch and Data's Palo Alto site. The firm said the move is part of Softbank's plans to accommodate a doubling of its internet traffic with North American internet service providers.

HSL, an independent mobile network operator and provider of mobile services, announces plans to add 3G capability to its 2.75G femtocell. HSL's 2.75G femtocell is currently under development and is expected to ship in volume towards the end of 2008.

Tsinghua University signs a five-year contract with Siemens to establish a technology exchange center. The center will conduct research in rail transportation, waste water treatment, energy conservation, emission reduction, intelligent transportation systems and other fields.
