Huawei has won a contract to supply a 3G network to EVNTelecom. The Vietnamese operator will begin offering service by the end of April, 2010.

VNPT has launched the Vietnam leg of the Asia America Gateway (AAG) subsea cable.

Indian tower companies Aster Infrastructure and Essar Telecom Infrastructure have commenced talks over a possible merger. The companies have an estimated 5,500 towers between them.

Israeli IP business telephony supplier Tadiran Telecom has won two new tenders to supply telecom services for the Beijing Subway.

Three private equity houses have invested $180 million in China’s biggest web portal Sina. Sequoia Capital is joining with Chinese investment groups Fountainvest Partners and CITIC Capital to back a management-led purchase of 9.4 % of the company.
