The Philippines' Globe Telecom plans to roll out both LTE-Broadcast and LTE carrier aggregation in 2015.

The operator is currently trialling LTE-Broadcast (also known as LTE eMBMS), with plans to roll out the mobile video service next year, Globe senior advisor for product planning Ashish Pilani toldABS-CBN News.

The operator is in talks with content providers – including potentially TV networks – regarding exclusive video content. Another Globe executive, Emmanuel Estrada, told the paper that the operator needs something that will allow it to stand out from the competition.

Estrada added that deployment timeline will depend on the availability of compatible devices.

Globe rival Smart Telecom conducted a trial of LTE eMBMS late last year. The nation's television broadcasters have meanwhile started getting into the MVNO game, using TV content as a value add.

Globe is also planning to deploy LTE CA technology in 2015, believing that the high speeds make it particularly suited to the Philippines market, where fixed-line deployments are often constrained by geography and terrain.

The LTE-B and LTE CA deployments will represent a combined multi-million dollar investment in the operator's LTE network.
