HKBN Group has appointed Andrew Wong (pictured) as its new chief financial officer, with effect from January 1, 2018.

Wong was previously HKBN’s financial controller and will continue to lead the group’s finance team as well as oversee its investor relations in his new role, the Hong Kong-based telecoms operator said.

Wong has been working with HKBN for 11 years, starting out as a finance manager and later led the finance team through milestones such as the firm’s IPO in 2015, New World Telecom acquisition in 2016, and debt-financing projects between 2013-2016.

“Andrew is our first ever home-grown CFO and the first among our very deep talent bench to join our management committee base of five CXOs,” HKBN Group chief operating officer and co-owner NiQ Lai said. “He has shown the rare ability to evolve beyond bean counting to being able to allocate beans to areas of highest returns for HKBN.”

Prior to joining HKBN in 2006, Wong was an auditor at KPMG.
