Pakistan's Warid Telecom will deploy solar-powered base stations from Huawei.
Huawei said its environmentally-friendly Macro Base Stations (BTS) allows operators to extend network reach into remote areas where there is limited access to the electricity grid.
Operators in Pakistan, in particular, are currently expanding network coverage in smaller cities and in mountainous areas with poor transportation.
Many of these remote areas have limited access to the electricity grid, and operators have traditionally used diesel-powered generators to power network sites, Huawei said.
Huawei said its base stations are purely powered by solar energy, thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions and noise pollution.
