Japanese users get free access to trial WiMax service

Previously dominated by large cellular providers for many years, the Japanese mobile data market is now seeing more competition, especially from operators eyeing PC users. An emerging technology designed to provide users with high-speed mobile Internet access, WiMax, is believed to face an uphill battle as most mobile operators are expected to adopt the upcoming long-term evolution mobile technology, which also offers high speed data access.

Not to be left behind, Japanese operator, UQ Communications, recently announced that residents in three Japanese cities- Tokyo, Yokohama, and Kawasaki, can have free access to a trial WiMax service starting on February 26, This announcement is expected to set the stage for a mobile data services battle in Japan.
