Juniper Networks cuts Q1 guidance

In what is hopefully not an early indicator for the sector, yesterday after the market closed Juniper Networks reeled in its estimates for the first quarter.

The company cited weaker than expected demand from big operators in both the US and Europe, as well as the delayed timing of certain deployments.

Juniper's Q1 revenues are now expected to be $1.09 billion to $1.1 billion, down from its previous guidance of $1.15 billion to $1.19 billion. Earnings per share are now expected to check in at $0.35-0.37, down from $0.42-0.46.

The company says it 'remains constructive' on fiscal 2016, a phrase that is on the positive side of the spectrum but promises very little.

Not a fun quarter, perhaps, but honestly a rather typical bump in the road for the vendor side of things given that timing other companies' capex plans is always fraught with peril.

The question is whether it's just Juniper feeling the pinch this time, or whether it's more of a general thing.
