Spanish component vendor KDPOF will next month showcase a new technology that it says can increase the performance of Wi-Fi EasyMesh networks from 100Mbps up to 1Gbps in homes and small offices.

KDPOF provides gibabit transceivers over plastic optical fiber (POF). The company plans to use next month's Broadband World Forum in Germany to present their in-wall wired optical connectivity solution.

In combination with Wi-Fi access points, POF can provide high-speed wireless and wired connectivity covering an entire house or small office. The technology can reuse existing conduits in the home, making it cost-efficient and easy to install, the company said.

POF can also provide optical network termination to gateway links for more efficient placement of gateways.

“ISPs and Telecom operators are facing the paradox that while access speeds have increased, customer satisfaction rates drop if home networks cannot keep up," KDPOF CEO and co-founder Carlos Pardo said.

He said by working with KDPOF, operators can provide customers with the low latency, high speeds and reliable connectivity they have come to expect.

The company has conducted a trial with Spain's Telefonica to demonstrate the benefit of the technology.
