Gemalto announced it will provide its On-Demand Connectivity (ODC) solution and embedded SIM (eSIM) to deliver out-of-box connectivity to industrial IoT customers of Korea Telecom.

In a statement, Gemalto said this will enable KT to support all cars equipped with pre-embedded eSIMs, regardless of their country of origin.

Gemalto hosts and maintains the IoT connectivity solution in its certified data center, which integrates with KT’s connected car platform called GiGA drive.

KT, by combining the Gemalto’s remote subscription management solution with its eSIM, will be able to allow automobile manufacturers to provide in-vehicle connected services through GiGA drive and a single SIM.

Kangrim Choi, vice president & head of connected car business at KT, said the partnership will help KT strengthen existing partnerships with 13 major automotive brands in six countries and drive the adoption of its GiGA drive platform.

It will also open doors for KT to actively patriciate in upcoming connected cars programs around the world, Choi said.
