Australian enterprise communications service provider Macquarie Telecom has launched a new SD-WAN service supporting a combination of multi-path and multi-carrier dynamic routing services.

The new service provides what Macquarie Telecom calls intelligent dynamic packet routing, involving carrying data and network functions over a mix of connections which can include Australia's national broadband network (NBN), private lines, 4G or microwave links.

It is also the first service in the market capable of leveraging multiple carriers.

The system is designed to automatically chose the best pathway to transmit information and workloads for the highest speeds and lowest latency, and to ensure redundancy in the case of one link going down.

Information can also be sent concurrently across two links and recombined to form the complete transmission. An accompanying single screen Orchestrator also promises to give enterprises full visibility into up to 2,500 applications running simultaneously across their networks.

The service can also intelligently analyze and prioritize traffic as needed, and has built in public key infrastructure for enhanced security.

"We're not testing the waters here. This is ready for market. It's a complimentary addition to our MPLS business, which continues to grow. What it does is give businesses the choice to employ a mixed approach which will help them optimize their networks across all sites, particularly regional sites,” Macquarie Telecom group executive Luke Clifton said.

"SD-WAN is an important development in keeping Australia at the forefront of technology, and in IT moving from a loss component to a profit component in Australian businesses. The key to that happening is automation, allowing IT departments and network operators to focus on the business at hand while we manage their all resources right here in Australia."
