Malaysia's YTL e-Solutions has entered into a Wimax partnership with Sprint Nextel's XOHM business unit, according to the Star Online.
Tan Sri Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, YTLE executive chairman, said the partnership would enable the company to tap into XOHM's Wimax resources and capabilities in the US and implement them in Malaysia.
"We've got a roadmap and this collaboration with XOHM will facilitate YTLe's plans to develop and deploy Wimax in Malaysia," Yeoh said.
Yeoh said XOHM would share its expertise and experience in key areas, including ecosystem strategy, infrastructure design and network deployment.
Yeoh, however, did not yet say exactly when YTLE will roll out its Wimax network. "We will roll out as soon as possible. Our time to market will become faster due to this partnership," he said.
Last year, he Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) awarded Wimax 2.3-gigahertz spectrum to Asiaspace Dotcom, REDtone International, Green Packet and Y-Max Networks, a YTLe subsidiary.
All four companies have been mandated by MCMC to roll out Wimax services to at least 25 percent of the Malaysian population by year-end.
