Marko Ahtisaari to join Nokia's leadership team

Nokia has promoted Marko Ahtisaari to executive vice president of design and a member of the company’s leadership team.

Ahtisaari, who assumed his new roles on February 1, reports directly to president and CEO Stephen Elop.

Previously Ahtisaari was senior vice president of design, responsible for the industrial design and user experience design of all Nokia products. He has led the team since 2009 during which time Nokia Design has created critically acclaimed products such as the Nokia N9, the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 900.

Prior to rejoining Nokia in 2009, Ahtisaari was an entrepreneur, as CEO and co-founder of Dopplr, a social network for international travelers, and head of brand and design at Blyk, an advertising-funded mobile network.

He joined Nokia in 2002 as director of insight and innovation and was promoted to director of design strategy in 2005.
