The number of active mobile Wimax subscribers reached 4.73 million by the end of the third quarter of 2009, surpassing for the first time those of fixed Wimax, according to Maravedis.

“77% of customer premises equipment installed in the third quarter of 2009 were indoor CPEs with over 3.6 million units, followed by USB dongles (595,000 units or 13%) and PCMCIA cards (244,000 units or 5%),” said Cintia Garza, co-author of the latest 4GCounts report.

On the LTE side, progress in terms of new LTE operator commitments was observed with 51 by the end of the quarter.
