While many ISPs in the United States and Europe have been making investments into their email infrastructure to lower the rate of false positives sent from their email servers, many Asian ISPs largely lack understanding of the benefits achieved by doing so, said Goel.
Singapore-based Starhub had migrated its legacy email system to the Google mail platform in March 2009 in a move which the operator claimed was aimed at improving the customer experience. The result was higher storage space and additional features such as anti-spam, compared to the legacy system. StarHub’s assistant VP of integrated solutions Stephen Lee told TelecomAsia the migration had also improved operational efficiency for the operator.
Lee was however, unable to disclose the number of active email customers the operator had.
