SingTel will swap its shareholding in a Taiwan fixed-line operator for a stake in a mobile player in deal worth 6.1 billion Taiwan dollars ($185 million).
The Singapore carrier announced Wednesday it proposed to exchange its 24.51% stake in New Century InfoComm (NCIC) for 3.98% of mobile operator Far EasTone.
The deal, due to be concluded by December 31, 2007, accords with SingTel's cellular-focused offshore strategy. It owns stakes in mobile operators all through ASEAN and Australia, with a total subscriber number of 136 million.
