SK Telecom is using this year's CES trade show in Las Vegas to showcase media and mobility technologies designed for the 5G era.

The company has set up a joint exhibition booth with Korean entertainment giant SM Entertainment to display technologies including the company's HoloBox artificial intelligence hologram device, first unveiled at last year's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The HoloBox is designed to allow users to communicate face to face with a virtual AI avatar using SK Telecom's AI platform NUGU.

Also on display at the booth are the company's Social VR app for mobile device-based VR headsets, and various AI-based media technology.

SK Telecom has also teamed up with fellow SK Group companies SK Innovation and SK Hynix to host a second both showcasing key self-driving technologies including a solution for more accurately determining the distance between self-driving cars and surrounding objects using LiDAR (light detection and ranging) technology.

“At CES 2019, SK Telecom will showcase cutting-edge technologies related to media and mobility, the areas that will undergo innovative changes in the 5G era,” commented Yoon Yong-chul, EVP and head of Communication Center at SK Telecom.

“SK Telecom will take this opportunity to position itself as a solid leader in the areas of next-generation media and mobility technologies.”
