First we had stories of people sleeping with their mobile phones. Now, fresh research shows a quarter of people can't go to the bathroom without their device in hand.
More worryingly, the New York Times reported that a survey of 1,000 Americans also found that three-quarters actually use their phone while on the toilet, making calls, sending text messages and even shopping.
BlackBerry smartphones are preferred for voice calls, while Apple's iPhone is most likely to be used if accessing social media or using apps. However, it is Google's Android that receives the honor of most-used toilet handset.
