Singapore's StarHub and Japanese infrastructure and data center provider KVH have teamed up to offer KVH’s DCNet in Singapore.

DCNet is a private network interconnecting leading data centers in Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, with on-ramp access from key data centers in the US.

Utilizing StarHub’s fiber network, DCNet is now currently available in ten data centers in Singapore with plans to expand to additional data centers in Singapore in the coming months. These data centers host content distributors, major application and cloud providers, and carrier hubs.

Customers in these facilties can utilize DCNet’s pre-wired network to connect to an ecosystem of third-party data centers in Asia through a simple cross-connect, with the aim of achieving a single, virtual, and borderless data center experience.

In addition to the DCNet data center facilities online in Tokyo, Osaka, Yokohama, Singapore and Hong Kong, this service is also supported with on-ramps from Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.

DCNet is designed to meet an enterprise’s connectivity needs for business continuity planning (BCP), diversification of data center sites, and expansion of data center usage. DCNet is also targeted at service providers and cloud providers that require connectivity to multiple data center sites with broad geographic coverage and want to avoid the complexity of negotiating and managing many individual network contracts.

Cloud service providers could utilize DCNet’s customer-and-partner ecosystems to discover, reach, and sell their services to other participants in DCNet connected data centers. This ecosystem allows participants to discover service alternatives that will help them grow their business and easily connect to various service providers.

DCNet is currently available in bandwidths from 100Mbps to 10Gbps today, with an 100Gbps service planned for 2015. Customers subscribe to a 1G or 10G Ethernet port and choose either a fixed or burstable bandwidth option.

The burstable DCNet service has standard per megabit bandwidth rates and allows customers to “pay-as-they-grow” providing a very low entry point for connectivity, reduced total cost of ownership (TCO), and the ability to opt for new data centers as and when their business grows.

“StarHub is pleased to provide our extensive fibre network to support KVH’s new DCNet platform, which connects the various data centres in Singapore. With DCNet and StarHub’s extensive and comprehensive international connectivity in Asia Pacific, customers can also be conveniently connected to other destinations in the region,” said Ms Denise Chng, general manager, international business, StarHub.
