Telstra CFO Robyn Denholm (pictured) has revealed plans to leave the Australian operator in May 2019 to replace Elon Musk as chair of electronic vehicle company Tesla.

Denholm has been in the CFO role for just one month. She joined Telstra in January last year, initially as the company's COO.

Denholm will serve out a six-month notice period before leaving the company in early May. She has been serving on the Tesla board since 2014.

“We are sorry to see Robyn leave Telstra. We know that it has become increasingly difficult to balance her responsibilities as Telstra CFO with the increased activity of the Tesla Board,” Telstra CEO Andy Penn said.

“We are undertaking a search for a new Chief Financial Officer and will provide an update on a replacement appointment as soon as possible.”
