(Bangkok Post via NewsEdge) Thailand-based Fiber To The Home Co (FTTH), claims it will be able to offer the full 'triple play' of telecommunications and media services for just 950 baht ($30) per month.
Last week the company signed an agreement with the Metropolitan Electricity Authority to lease the utility's fibre-optic network.
Kobsak Chinawongwatana, FTTH's chief executive, said the company had now opened full commercial services for its ultra-broadband internet, telephone and internet television services.
Internet services through fibre optics are available at speeds ranging from one to 100 Mbps, or significantly faster than existing copper-wire or satellite technologies.
Under the contract, the MEA has granted a non-exclusive right to use its nationwide fibre-optic network as well as build further connections as needed.
Kobsak said FTTH would guarantee services for its clients '24 hours per day, seven days per week'.
FTTH signed an initial memorandum of understanding with the MEA in late 2005, followed by field tests of its services for more than 4,000 corporate and home users in Bangkok, Chon Buri and Ayutthaya.
The company plans to market four separate packages, starting with an 'Ultra Standard' package priced at 950 baht per month with bandwidth of one Mbps download and upload speeds.
